Granite resists the forces of pressure in the atmosphere that would normally cause separations in the rock. Granite is frequently used today in pavements and borders and as coverings in large buildings. The underground peak temperature for granite is 400oC. Granite takes between one thousand and two thousand years to cool. The heat source of granite is also known to be the source of geothermal waters. One of the reasons for the formation of geothermal waters is the high temperature of the water seeping out of the cracks in the earth and the ensuing mixture into the waters of various minerals.
